CHYULU HILLS NATIONAL PARK

Chyulu Hills National Park is located in Makueni County in South-West Kenya and lies between the Tsavo and Amboseli ecosystem.
The range is 2188m at its highest and is 150km long. Actually only the eastern side in Kamba country is in the park, the western side is Maasai-land belonging to communities such as Mbirikani and Kuku group ranches.
The Chyulu hills national park was established in 1983. Its located 200 kilometers south east of Nairobi and the nearest towns are Voi and Tsavo. Comprises of a 100 kilometer volcanic field filled with dramatic Willie views and birds.
Chyulu Hills National Park is tucked away between Tsavo and Amboseli national parks. It’s considered as one of the best places to view Africa highest mountain Kilimanjaro, being also the largest larva in the world.
Though the last occurrence is said to be about 200 years ago, Chyulu hills still show signs of volcanic eruption.
The park has got no river but wondrous porous rocks that drain rain water and later flow into springs and rivers.
The ecosystem is characterized by thicket, savannah grasslands and montane forests.

Activities at Chyulu national park.
- Hiking is the main activity at the park. Animals trekking trails that lead you to explore the mountain ranges and view various wildlife. Its highest peak is not hard to climb and not very tiresome the peak is 150 kilometers long. The hike also gives views of Kilimanjaro Mountain

- Visit Kisula larva caves Chyulu hills national park has the deepest lava tubes in the world with the Leviathan caves said to be 11.5 kilometers long., this can be hiked for about 3-4 hours one way from the parks entrance.

The best time to visit the park is during the drier when the water holes are crowded with animals drinking water during to water scarcity. However, the park can be visited all year round
WHERE TO STAY
The park has got three campsites while other accommodation units can be found outside the park some of the lodges are; Ol donyo lodge and campingyanzi among others.
How to get there
The park is located 20 kilometers from Mombasa airport, 230 kilometers from Nairobi and 10 kilometers off Nairobi- Mombasa highway.
There are two airstrips at the park that can access by the domestic chattered flights from Mombasa or Nairobi.
